Career Path to Northwestern Mutual

While attending Kent State University, Dan Leslie was drawn to Northwestern Mutual by the prospect of unlimited opportunity for professional achievement. In 1995, he joined Northwestern Mutual as a College Intern.  Upon graduation Dan became a full-time Financial Representative and enjoyed helping clients achieve financial security.

In addition to his own practice as a Financial Advisor, Dan also discovered a professional strength in fostering the development of other Financial Representatives. He discovered this talent early in his career as a College Unit Director in 2000.  By 2003 he became the company's leading College Unit Director.  Dan went on to become a Field Director with Northwestern Mutual leading the Central Region in 2004 and 2005 and was runner-up in the company in 2005 and 2006. 

Dan is currently a Wealth Management Advisor and the Managing Director associated with Northwestern Mutual in Akron, Ohio. The District office has 20 financial advisors and does over $30 million a year in investment sales and has over $3.5 billion of insurance in-force.  In addition the organization provides students with over 30 internship opportunities a year. Dan is also one of approximately 30 people in Northwestern Mutual’s elite Emerging Leaders Program.  

 

Continued Growth

Continuing to deliver on his commitment to help his clients achieve financial security, Dan earned his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU)Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC)  designations from the American College.  and his Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) certification from the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. 

The Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation has long been recognized as the fundamental and foremost educational credential for life insurance professionals. Since 1927, more than 94,000 individuals have earned their CLU, helping them build a successful life insurance practice by providing clients with knowledgeable and ethical advice. For financial representatives, field management, home office personnel, and others involved in providing life insurance products to the public, the CLU designation symbolizes continuing growth and commitment to professionalism.

The Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designation focuses on the comprehensive financial planning process as an organized way to collect and analyze information on a client's total financial situation; to identify and establish specific financial goals; and to formulate, implement, and monitor a comprehensive plan to achieve those goals. The ChFC program provides financial services professionals with in-depth knowledge of the skills needed to perform comprehensive financial planning for their clients.

The Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) certification is one of the most recognized financial planning marks in the world. CFP® certification identifies to the public those individuals who have met rigorous professional standards and have agreed to adhere to the principles of integrity, objectivity, competence, fairness, confidentiality, professionalism, and diligence when dealing with clients. The certification differs from an educational designation or state license in that it is based upon requirements that have been determined by extensive job analysis of actual practitioners in the field, and therefore, continue to evolve with the profession. The CFP® certification prepares the financial services professional for a career-long commitment to meeting the ever-changing financial needs of clients 

Dan has also earned various investment licenses including the Series 6, 7, 63, 66, 9 and 24 and he is a Certified Coach and Certified Trainer in the financial services industry.

 

Professional Associations 

Dan Leslie is a past President of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) - Akron/Canton Chamber. The mission of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors is to advocate for a positive legislative and regulatory environment, enhance business and professional skills, and promote the ethical conduct of our members. 

Dan received the NAIFA National Quality Award in 2002, 2004-05, 2008-10. The National Quality Award was created in 1944 and it recognizes agents whose persistency records indicate competence and dedication to the insurance industry and their clients. Agents who win this award have tangible evidence signifying that the products they sell will meet their clients needs.

NAIFA is a national nonprofit organization representing the interests of more than 70,000 insurance and financial advisors nationwide, through its federation of over 900 state and local associations. Founded in 1890, NAIFA is the nation's largest financial services membership association.

 He is a member of the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT). MDRT is the premiere association of financial professionals. MDRT status designation is granted for one year and members must apply every year to continue their affiliation with the MDRT.  Founded in 1927, MDRT provides its members with resources to improve their technical knowledge, sales and client service while maintaining a culture of high ethical standards.
